Directions for GammaGraft Patients
Congratulations! You have received GammaGraft coverage for
your wound. GammaGraft® is an extremely durable wound dressing
that greatly simplifies wound care and helps the body to heal itself.
GammaGraft® is also one of the most patient-friendly biological grafts
available. You will be able to bathe, shower, and avoid painful dressing
changes with GammaGraft® in place. Here is how to make the
GammaGraft® most effective:
- Wait 24 hours and Allow the GammaGraft® to Air Dry
After 24 hours with GammaGraft® in place or at the time of your
doctor’s recommendation, the cover dressings of gauze can be removed
and the GammaGraft® should be allowed to air dry. DO NOT TRY
TO REMOVE THE GAMMAGRAFT®. Leave the GammaGraft®
uncovered to the air for 2-3 hours until it is dry. This will help the
GammaGraft® to better adhere to the wound. After the GammaGraft
has dried (it will darken to resemble a scab), you should not
need any other dressings over top of the GammaGraft® unless
recommended by your physician. You may bathe and shower with the
GammaGraft® in place once it is dry.
- Patient Home Care
Avoid excessive shearing and rubbing of the GammaGraft®.
The GammaGraft® should be patted dry after becoming wet. As the
edges of the covered wound begin to heal from the sides, the
GammaGraft® will begin to curl up and lift at the wound edges. To
eliminate any possible discomfort, pieces of paper tape may be applied
to these edges to eliminate snagging on clothing and the doctor may
trim the graft edges back. The GammaGraft® will slough off on its own
as the wound heals. Due to varying degrees of wound depth and rates
of healing, some areas of GammaGraft® may remain on the wound
longer than other areas.

basis while GammaGraft® is covering your wound*
